FF: How long have you been creating comics?
JEN HICKMAN: I've been working in comics since 2014ish, but I've been drawing comics since I was a teenager.
FF: What do you enjoy drawing?
JEN HICKMAN: Character acting is my favorite thing to draw- I get a ton of satisfaction out of communicating complex emotions with body language and facial expressions. I also really love drawing hands.
FF: What kind of characters do you like to write/draw?
JEN HICKMAN: This might paint me as some kind of pretentious emo, but I'm drawn to characters that are a little messed-up, a little broken. The kind where I empathize with them and am also mildly repulsed. Anti-heroes and villains are my first loves.
FF: What inspires you?
JEN HICKMAN: Margaret Atwood, Terry Pratchett, video games like Dishonored and Deus Ex, and comics from people like Becky Cloonan, Darwyn Cooke, Carla Speed McNeil.
FF: Why do you like drawing erotica?
JEN HICKMAN: A part of it is just using my voice to tell stories that don't get to be told: to portray queer sex as hot without involving the (straight) male gaze and/or heteronormativity. And a part of it is the fun of poking at taboos and aiming for some shock value.
FF: What drew you to Filthy Figments?
JEN HICKMAN: The other amazing artists on the site! Seriously, everyone is so good and they're putting together such radical stories, I wanted to be a part of it!
FF: Any other comic projects you'd like to plug?
JEN HICKMAN: Check out Moth & Whisper from AfterShock! I'm so happy to be drawing that book!
FF: Where else can readers find you online?
JEN HICKMAN: Twitter and Tumblr using the handle 'umicorms'
